  • 2 cups Japanese white rice
  • 2 ½ cups water
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Method
 

  1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water.
  2. Soak the rinsed rice for 30 minutes.
  3. Drain the rice and add it to a rice cooker or pot.
  4. Add water according to the proper ratio.
  5. Start the cooking process and allow to steam.
  6. Let the rice rest for 10 minutes post-cooking.
  7. Fluff the rice gently with a fork.
  8. Mix in vinegar, sugar, and salt if preparing sushi rice.
