Ingredients
  

  • 1 French baguette sliced into ½ inch pieces
  • 8 slices of thick-cut bacon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese softened
  • Fresh chives or green onions for garnish

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange the sliced baguette on a baking sheet and lightly brush with olive oil.
  3. Bake the baguette slices for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
  4. While the bread is baking, prepare the candied bacon. In a bowl, toss the bacon slices with brown sugar, maple syrup, and red pepper flakes.
  5. Arrange the bacon on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake the bacon for 20-25 minutes or until crispy, flipping halfway through.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with a pinch of salt (and pepper if desired).
  8. Once the bacon is ready, remove it from the oven and place it on a paper towel to drain excess grease.
  9. Spread a layer of cream cheese on each crostini, then top with pieces of candied bacon.
  10. Garnish with finely chopped chives or green onions before serving.
